Glass Artist Website for Lulu Harrison | Research & E-commerce

Lulu Harrison glass artist website with video of sustainable glass-making process

Home Page - Moving image and Storytelling Visuals demonstrating craft

Lulu Harrison is an innovative glass artist pushing boundaries by working with biomaterials to create sustainable glass-making practices. As a recent graduate transitioning to professional status, she needed a website that would elevate her multifaceted work, spanning research, exhibition pieces, and limited edition collections.

Her previous basic DIY Squarespace site failed to capture the depth and excitement of her pioneering approach to glass art. This custom website bridges her artistic practice with her materials research while creating a platform for selling her limited edition glassware.

Website Challenges for an Emerging Glass Artist

Before our collaboration, Lulu faced several obstacles in representing her unique practice online:

  • Her basic graduate website didn't reflect her sophisticated approach to sustainable glass-making for funding applications

  • Her multidisciplinary practice (spanning research, products, and exhibitions) lacked cohesive elevated presentation

  • There was no effective system for selling her limited edition collections when they became available

  • The site failed to communicate the innovative processes and biomaterial research projects behind her work - which she wanted to document going forward

"Emma really took on board what I said and what I envisioned and conveyed this in digital form."

Custom Glass Artist Website Solution

Working closely with Lulu, I designed a comprehensive Squarespace website that effectively showcases all dimensions of her practice:

Dynamic Visual Introduction - Created an immersive landing page featuring video of her glass-making process, immediately drawing visitors into her artistic world and demonstrating her craft in action.

Research & Process Storytelling - Developed dedicated sections highlighting her pioneering work with biomaterials and sustainable practices, positioning her at the forefront of innovative glass-making.

Flexible Collection Sales System - Implemented a specialised e-commerce solution for her limited edition glassware that she can activate whenever new collections launch, complete with storytelling product pages that detail the making process, collaborators, and materials.

Project Categorisation - Designed an intuitive project showcase with clear categorisation that Lulu can easily update, featuring CSS breadcrumb navigation for enhanced user experience.

Collaborative Design Process

Our partnership focused on creating a platform that would properly position her as a professional maker:

  • Analysed the different strands of her practice to identify key audiences for each aspect

  • Structured the site around these distinct but related areas of her work

  • Developed a highly story-focused design approach that highlights the narrative behind each collection

  • Created an elegant visual system that places her imagery centre stage while maintaining clear navigation

Website Results & Business Impact

The new website has successfully elevated Lulu's professional presence and directly contributed to her commercial success:

  • Properly positioned her transition from student to professional maker

  • Created a compelling platform that communicates the innovative nature of her practice

  • Generated direct sales of her limited edition collections

  • Attracted new collaborative opportunities with potential partners

"Absolutely brilliant results. A website more beautiful than I could have imagined with everything on it displayed clearly and concisely... I have sold out of many pieces, and since then have had a great reaction to the site with more clients getting in touch about potential collaborations."

After project completion, clients receive training for self-updates, so live website content may differ from my original design.
