Glassblower Website | Michael Ruh
Project Background
I have worked with the Michael Ruh Glass Blowing Studio since 2017 to support and translate the offer of its hand-blown coloured glassware collection online. Working with Squarespace and then Shopify as their online business grew.
In 2017 they wished to set up an eCommerce site with their hand-blown made-to-order glassware. The business had concentrated on the wholesale market sales channel resulting in worldwide luxury stockists. A new business goal was to grow direct sales to the customer through an eCommerce site.
ACTIONS TAKEN:
Pre-Design Research:
Conducted in-depth research to understand the challenges of translating artisan high-value glassware sales online.
Explored customer perception obstacles and the user experience in placing made-to-order coloured glassware orders.
Branding and Visuals:
Analysed branding, visuals, and copy for improvement.
Commissioned a new set of product images for the core collection.
Collaborated with a copywriter to enhance website content.
Bespoke Emphasis:
Emphasised the bespoke side of the business to showcase projects and case studies.
Ensured easy of use updates for projects and case studies on the website.
Design Approach:
Adopted a natural and minimal style with a harmonious colour aesthetic.
Implemented a clean design focused on showcasing beautiful and modern images.
Redesign in 2021:
Undertook a website redesign, migrating from Squarespace to Shopify.
Responded to the expansion of the product range and the need for diverse payment gateways.
Shopify Transition:
Researched and selected a suitable design template for evolving business needs.
Oversaw and implemented the migration and setup within the new Shopify template.
